Dr Rebecca Hamer is currently the research lead of the IB Assessment Research and Design team. Since 2012, this team actively advises curriculum review and innovation for the IB Diploma, Career-related and Middle Years Programmes on assessment design and its impact on learning and teaching. In her work she integrates insights from her work on student and teacher learning and teaching conceptions formed over almost four decades. Work that is presented in The Meaning of Learning and Knowing (2010, Sense publishers) which she co-authored with Erik Jan van Rossum. The extensive discussion of their developmental epistemological model of student and teacher thinking about learning and teaching provides a window on how students and teacher interpret a range of aspects of learning and teaching and how the different levels complex thinking affect how they experience and cope with reality. These insights underpin Rebecca's work in assessment design as well as current IB assessment research into the impact of assessment innovations on the quality of learning.

Karl is currently the Director of Knowledge Innovation at Cambridge Digital Innovation, Hughes Hall. At CDI he aims to advance research on digital innovation as well promote the translational impact of such research through knowledge hubs and education outreach programmes. His research interests include digital innovation particularly in regard to health care and fintech contexts, broader themes of innovation such as ecosystem development and leadership, and information systems. Karl has previous experience in industry and academic contexts, holding consulting and management positions in the Cambridge cluster and research positions at the University of Cambridge, Warwick Business School and Leeds Business School.

Dr Yigal Rosen is the Chief Academic Officer at BrainPOP, where he leads research and development efforts to ensure BrainPOP products deliver on the promise of learning outcomes and academic gains. Yigal and his team develop human centered AI/ML learning technologies, create formative assessments, and conduct efficacy research across all of BrainPOP products. In addition to his role at BrainPOP, Yigal is leading a research project at The LEGO Foundation aimed to advance research and practice on learning progressions and playful assessments for the development of Holistic skills in children (creative, cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills).

He led research and development groups at Harvard University, Pearson and ACT. In his previous role at ACT, Yigal led the design and development of the first global assessment of creative thinking for the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 and served as a Principal Investigator of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) research and innovation project.

Yigal's research has been supported by industry, ed tech and government agencies, including: Apple, Microsoft, Intel, the U.S. National Science Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Education.

Yigal taught technology-enhanced assessment design at Harvard University Graduate School of Education and worked for over 10 years as a teacher in Math, Physics, and Computer Science in grades 5 through 12.

He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Learning Sciences and Measurement from the University of Haifa in Israel, being the youngest recipient of a doctoral degree in the University. Yigal was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University and at Tel Aviv University.
