The world we are living in today is defined by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA). The rate of change is accelerating, making it increasingly challenging to anticipate radical shifts and surprises. Methods such as Forecasting do not help to anticipate sources of discontinuity and disruption. Instead anticipatory, Futures Thinking (foresight) models are required, to integrate imaginative, systems thinking not only build adaptive organizations, but also to shape preferred futures.
The aim of the proposed workshop exercise is to better prepare for and respond to the future impact of generative AI in Education. This will help a small group of participants to use anticipatory thinking to locate current developments in AI and Education within an expanded time horizon. The workshop will involve exercises to enable the participants to develop 'future literacies', to imagine and engage creatively with uncertain drivers of educational change.
